Today, Gimmel Taamuz on the Hebrew calendar, is the Rebbe's thirtieth yarhtzeit. My personal social media feed is flooded with photos of my friends and family getting a blessing from the Rebbe. But I was born thirty years ago, just a few short months before the Rebbe passed. I don't have a photo.

And yet, the Rebbe is my leader, mentor, biggest source of inspiration and guidance, one of the most defining people in my life, my Rebbe.

So here's my photo with the Rebbe. While you may not see the Rebbe in this photo of me surrounded by thirty beautiful women lighting Shabbat candles together, all I see is the Rebbe. His vision and mission, to spread light, to care deeply about others, to care deeply about mitzvot and Torah, to connect Jewish people with each other and with G-d. I see me and my family, being raised without seeing the Rebbe but so strongly committed to the Rebbe's mission of creating a more beautiful and wholesome world.
I daven that Moshiach come today so that we can be reunited with all our loved ones (and I can finally get my photo with the Rebbe.) Until then, keep living with what he taught. One more good deed.*

Zalmy will be at the ohel** today along with over 50,000 other people. I invite you to tap into the incredible energy of so many prayers from all sorts of people said in a holy place on such a powerful day. If you would like to put your name in with a short message please CLICK HERE

Here's a short list of things I've learnt from the Rebbe:

  • The incredible potential and value of each moment, person (big or small), good deed, and interaction.
  • To view the world with rose colored glasses.
  • Never stuck. Wherever I am right now is exactly where I'm needed and to do something to make this experience matter.
  • I should create the environment around me, not the opposite.
  • It's not about where you stand on the ladder but the direction you're going in. One more small step in the right direction.

Want to hear stories of the Rebbe and discuss this over good food and wine? See you this Shabbat!
