Do something! Show up! Light a Menorah!
Dear Friends,
Evil wants us afraid and hiding. Do Something! Show up! More mitzvos. More light. Louder and prouder Jewish.
The Jewish people walked into a Temple filled with destruction, every bottle of oil smashed, and still the Jewish people searched for light.
The miracle wasn’t only that a small jug of oil existed, it was that when it didn’t make sense, despite all the death, ruin, destruction, they cared enough to look for it and to light the menorah.
That fire didn’t last just one day.
It’s lasted thousands of years. It will never go out.
Good will always triumph. Darkness is limited. Light is endless.
The Jewish people are here to stay.
Our hearts are broken over the precious Jewish souls, our brothers and sisters, lost in the heinous terrorist attack in Sydney, and we pray for the wounded to have a miraculous recovery. This hits really close to home. The Rabbi was my friend who was murdered for being Jewish while lighting a public menorah after helping others put on tefillin.
He would want bigger gatherings, with more mitzvos being done. Because the only only thing that will make this right is to once and for all outshine the darkness.
We will not hide.
Today at Frozen Chanukah, with heightened security, heaters, and with strength, we’re showing up together to celebrate the Holiday of Light and to say clearly that we’re Jewish and we’re proud.
Please spread the word and let us know you’ll be there.
Happy Chanukah,
Rabbi Zalmy Goldberg
