Light Menorah before Shabbat candles today, Friday before 5:18 PM in Dunwoody, GA

Oil burns. It makes sense to celebrate when a drop of oil burns unnaturally long, but why celebrate day one when oil caught fire like oil does? Now I'm all for an extra day of donuts- but really, why 8 not 7 miraculous days?

Because it was a miracle that they even searched. When one walks into a broken temple destroyed and desecrated and decides I still believe- that is the real miracle. Even when it's so dark, keep believing.

Have a Shabbat Shalom,

Rabbi Zalmy Goldberg

PS Menorahs are going up all over town. Spot one? Take a picture and tag us! We want to see it! Win an apple watch for sharing a menorah with a friend or sending a photo of you lighting the menorah! detail here
