This year Purim feels different, like we’re not just reading a story about Purim, we’re watching it unfold.
That could be uncomfortable. Purim is usually just costumes and candy and chaos (but the good type!). Not sirens and missiles. For a moment, imagine the Jews during the actual story of Purim. It did not feel cute while it was happening. It took more than fourteen years to see the whole picture, from feast to redemption. Years of fear and confusion, not knowing what strings G-d was pulling behind the scenes. We read it in one sitting and it sounds like a fairytale. They lived it in real time.
When things feel shaky, remember it’s not the finale. We don't yet see the full picture.
I’m not a prophet, I’m just looking at the facts on the ground and the promises we’ve been given. We are closer than ever to the time of Mashiach. History doesn’t move in circles. It moves forward. The happy ending might be taking its time, but like all last-minute miracles, it happens exactly when it’s meant to.
G-d’s name isn’t written once in the Megillah, and yet G-d is in every detail. That’s our life too, especially now.
What can we do to speed up the revelation of all this good?
The four mitzvos of Purim!
- Hear the Megillah. (reading at Big Play today at 5! RSVP HERE!)
- Give Mishloach Manos. Send two foods to a friend.
- Give Matanos L’evyonim. Extra tzedakah to two different organizations or people. You can donate HERE, we're a 501c3
- Make a festive meal! (Join us at Big Play!)
May we look back at this Purim as the last one in a world of concealment and on the steps to a world of joy, delight, beauty, peace, and alignment!
