Today is the holiday of second chances. For things outside our control, and for things we may have caused ourselves, this day reminds us that both are very much meant to be.
We’re often quick to forgive others, or life, but slow to forgive ourselves. Yet this holiday teaches that our story was never off track. Every turn, even the confusing ones, brought us exactly where we are needed most in our story.
On one of our recent Mitzvah Kitchen runs, the deliveries ran longer than expected (traffic and such!) and as Shabbat was coming in, one meal didn’t make it out. It sat heavy with us as we started Shabbat. We were bummed. It hurt knowing we didn’t get the meal there in time.

We made sure the family was on our list for the next delivery date. What we later learned is that, in a way we never could have planned, it unfolded exactly as it was meant to. That Shabbat they ended up with unexpected support and food from elsewhere, and the meal we delivered this week arrived right when they truly needed it most.
It doesn’t erase the miss, and we now are making sure meals are ready and out before noon on Fridays, but it did remind us that even what feels like a setback can still be held inside a bigger picture we can’t always see in the moment.
Trekking the path of life may look curvy and confusing but looking back it's a direct path to where we need to be. message from the holiday that we celebrate today- Pesach Sheni!
